CPES Researchers Issued First Patent of 2025
Feb 25, 2025

CPES alumni Rimon Gadelrab and center founder Fred Lee are the inventors of "Three-Phase LLC Converters with Integrated Magnetics," US Patent # 12212247, applicable to DC/DC converters in power supplies for servers, telecom, datacenters, aerospace, transportation, and wireless networks.
Compared to prior art, the novel topology for three-phase LLC DC-DC converters has minimum RMS currents on both primary and secondary sides and no 3rd order harmonics. And, when compared to three-single interleaved approaches, the topology has 33% less volt-second resulting in less core volume and loss, better magnetic integration further reducing core loss, and lower winding loss due to 42% less RMS currents on the transformer primary side.
Through CPES' unique technology-sharing model, this is the 176th patent licensed to Industry Consortium companies as part of their membership for no additional fees.
