Dr. Christina DiMarino Earns Tenure and Promotion at CPES - Virginia Tech

Jun 12, 2025

Portrait of Dr. DiMarino

The Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) is proud to announce the promotion of Dr. Christina DiMarino to the position of Associate Professor with tenure. Dr. DiMarino has made significant contributions through pioneering research, dedicated student mentorship, and impactful service to both the CPES community and the global electrical engineering field.

Her research focuses on power electronics packaging, high-density integration, medium-voltage power modules, and wide-bandgap power semiconductors—critical areas driving innovation in next-generation power systems.

Dr. DiMarino has successfully advised and graduated 8 Ph.D. and M.S. students, consistently demonstrating her commitment to academic excellence and student success.

She is the lead or co-author on more than 80 papers and has secured an impressive number of sponsored research projects, including SCALED, funded by ARPA-E under the OPEN 2021 program. For this project, Dr. DiMarino led a large CPES team and external collaborators at UConn and NREL to deliver a prototype "substation in a cable" combining the functionality benefits of power electronics with the power density benefits of high-voltage cables.

In 2024, the IEEE Power Electronics Society recognized her exceptional accomplishments with the Richard M. Bass Outstanding Young Power Electronics Engineer Award. She was honored with Virginia Tech’s Outstanding New Assistant Professor Award in 2022.

We congratulate Dr. DiMarino and look forward to her continued leadership and innovation in the field of power electronics!
