CPES Students to Present Research at COMPEL 2025
Jun 17, 2025

We are proud to announce that three CPES students will represent Virginia Tech at the 2025 IEEE Workshop on Control and Modeling for Power Electronics (COMPEL), one of the premier conferences focused on power electronics modeling, simulation, and control.
This year’s workshop will be held June 22-26, 2025 in Knoxville, TN and CPES students will be featured through both oral and poster presentations:
- “Investigation of CM Current Propagation in PEBB 6000: A 10 kV SiC MOSFET-Based Power Electronics Building Block”
Presented by Ashkan Barzkar, co-authored with He Song, Tonglei Wang, Rolando Burgos, Dong Dong, and Dushan Boroyevich. - “Modeling the Magnetic and Electric Near-field Emission from SiC-Based Half-bridge Converter”
Presented by Jeet Panchal, co-authored with Mamoru Sasaki, Tim Thacker, Majid Manteghi, Dong Dong, and Rolando Burgos. - “A Grid-Forming Control Scheme for Inverter-Based PV Generation Featuring Black-start Capabilities”
Presented by Biqi Wang, co-authored with Rolando Burgos, Andrea Pinceti, and Ibukunoluwa Korede (Dominion Energy). - “An Average Value Model for the Five-Level Robicon-Type Drive”
Presented by Mohammad Nair Aalam co-authored with Timothy Thacker and Rolando Burgos.
Participation in COMPEL reflects CPES’s continued commitment to advancing the field of power electronics through high-impact research and student development. The workshop offers an invaluable opportunity for our students to engage with leading experts from academia and industry, receive feedback on their work.
In addition to student presentations, Liyan Zhu, CPES Assistant Professor, will contribute to the success of the event as a session chair, further reflecting the center’s leadership and engagement in the power electronics research community.
We congratulate our students on their accomplishments and look forward to their contributions at COMPEL 2025.
