Congratulations, Tianlong Yuan, PhD!

CPES is proud to announce that Tianlong Yuan has earned his PhD.
Working under advisor Qiang Li, Tianlong’s dissertation, “Investigation and Design of Integrated Magnetics in High-power High-frequency Soft-switching DC/DC Converters for Battery Charger Applications,” advanced the state of EV charging. His research leveraged wide bandgap devices, PCB-based magnetics, and novel transformer designs to improve efficiency, power density, and scalability—enabling next-generation on-board and fast EV chargers. These innovations address the growing demand for lighter, more efficient, and higher-power chargers to support faster charging and 800V platforms.
Reflecting on his time at CPES, Tianlong shared:
“My time at CPES was transformative—being surrounded by world-class researchers and hands-on projects not only deepened my expertise in power electronics but also gave me a community of mentors and peers who inspired me to push boundaries. The collaborative spirit at CPES made every challenge an opportunity to innovate.”
Beyond his research, Tianlong also served as chair of the 2025 CPES Annual Conference.
