CPES Receives First and Second Place in IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics 2017 Prize Paper Award

Congratulations to CPES for placing first and second in the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics 2017 Prize Paper Award! First place was awarded to Wenli Zhang, Xiucheng Huang, Zhengyang Liu, CPES Professor and Director Emeritus Fred C. Lee, Shuojie She, Weijing Du, and CPES Professor Qiang Li for their paper "A New Package of High-Voltage Cascode Gallium Nitride Device for Megahertz Operation". The paper introduces a new package for high-voltage cascode GaN devices, and successfully demonstrates that the package makes the device more suitable for megahertz (MHz) operation.

Second place was awarded to Bo Wen, Dong Dong, CPES Professor and Director Dushan Boroyevich, CPES Professor Rolando Burgos, Paolo Mattavelli, and Zhiyu Shen for their paper, titled "Impedance-Based Analysis of Grid-Synchronization Stability for Three-Phase Paralleled Converters", which proposes a new impedance-based analysis method demonstrating that synchronization instability in a VSC system is caused by the negative incremental resistance behavior of grid-tied inverters' impedance when they are modeled in the d–q frame. It then goes on to show that the system can be stabilized by simply modifying the inverter's' PLL design.
