CPES Alumni Spotlight: Henry (Jindong) Zhang

One of CPES’s greatest strengths is its alumni community. Around the world, CPES graduates are advancing technology, leading innovation, and helping shape the future of power electronics. CPES is proud of all its alumni and the impact they continue to make through technical leadership, mentorship, and industry advancement.
Among these distinguished alumni is Henry (Jindong) Zhang, who earned his M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1998 and Ph.D. in 2001 from Virginia Tech. Today, Henry serves as Senior Design Director for Power μModule Products at Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI). In 2023, he was appointed an ADI Fellow, one of the company's highest technical distinctions, recognizing his outstanding technical innovation, leadership, and contributions to the power electronics industry.
Following graduation, Zhang joined Linear Technology Corporation in 2001 as a power applications engineer. Over the next two decades, he advanced through a series of leadership roles, progressing from section leader and applications manager to engineering director and senior director.
Zhang has made significant contributions to the power electronics industry. He founded and led development of the LTpowerCAD design tool, a flagship customer enablement platform supporting more than $1 billion in annual ADI power product revenue. He was also a founding member of Linear Technology’s μModule® product line and played a key leadership role in its development and growth. In addition, he has authored several widely used power electronics application notes and is an inventor or co-inventor on more than 20 power electronics patents, many of which have been successfully implemented in commercial products.
Reflecting on his time at CPES, Zhang describes the experience as transformative. “Joining CPES at Virginia Tech was a lifechanging experience for both my personal and professional development,” he said. He credits the mentorship of Fred Lee, Milan Jovanovi, and Dušan Boroyevich with helping him develop the work ethic, attention to detail, and passion for innovation that have guided his career.
As CPES continues to educate future generations of engineers, alumni such as Henry Zhang demonstrate how a strong technical foundation, combined with exceptional mentorship and collaboration, can lead to lasting contributions that advance both industry and society.
