Dr. Ming Xu Returns to CPES
Apr 18, 2026

This spring, CPES welcomes Dr. Ming Xu back to the center as professor and Power Management Consortium (PMC) thrust leader.
Dr. Xu holds more than 45 U.S. patents and has authored over 180 technical publications spanning high-frequency power conversion, distributed power systems, power factor correction, and converter modeling and control. His contributions to power management for computing systemsincluding widely adopted technologies for xPU architectureshave had lasting impact across the IT industry. His introduction of the Kelvin source concept for MOSFETs has also become a standard in power semiconductor device packaging.
Following his earlier tenure at CPES, Dr. Xu brought his research into practice by co-founding and leading Powerland Technology, growing it into a global power conversion company serving industrial, medical, and EV markets. This experiencebridging fundamental research with large-scale deploymentbrings a valuable dimension to his return.
Now rejoining CPES as Professor, Dr. Xu will contribute to and help shape research within the Power Management Consortium (PMC), with focus areas including low-voltage high-current conversion, high-density and distributed power systems, high-frequency magnetics integration, and wide- and ultra-wide-bandgap semiconductor applications.
His return strengthens CPES' mission to advance the state of the art while delivering impact to industry.
