Ming Xu rejoined CPES in 2026 as professor and Power Management Consortium (PMC) thrust leader. Dr. Xu was an associate professor of CPES before becoming the founder and chairman of Powerland Technology Inc, a prestigious technology-oriented company in the power electronics industry with more than 800 employees. Dr. Xu holds more than 45 U.S patents and has published more than 180 technical papers in journals and conferences. He is a globally recognized power electronics expert for his knowledge and creativity.

His research interests include high-frequency power conversion, high-frequency magnetic integration, modeling & control of converters, and power semiconductor devices. His research on power management for computing and microprocessors has been widely adopted by the IT industry. Two of his inventions, granted in 2004 and 2006, are now mainstream technologies for powering the xPU in servers. His research of two-stage power conversion and kelvin source concept for MOSFET proposed in 2003 becomes industry standards nowadays.
