Che-Wei Chang Earns Ph.D. from CPES
Oct 23, 2025
CPES proudly congratulates Dr. Che-Wei Chang on earning his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. His dissertation, titled “Design, Optimization, and Integration of a SiC-Based Traction Inverter with Enhanced Current Sharing for Paralleled Discrete Devices,” was completed under the guidance of Dr. Dong Dong.
Dr. Chang’s research advances the design of high-power SiC-based traction inverters—a key technology driving the performance and efficiency of electric vehicles (EVs). His work addresses one of the most critical challenges in EV power electronics: achieving balanced current sharing among paralleled devices to ensure reliability and performance. Through innovative circuit layouts, current-balancing techniques, and system-level integration strategies, his dissertation delivers solutions that improve inverter compactness, efficiency, and thermal performance—exceeding DOE 2025 power density targets.
Dr. Chang has joined Texas Instruments as a System Engineer, continuing his pursuit of innovation in power electronics.
Reflecting on his time at CPES, he shared:
“My time at CPES has been a fun and thrilling journey! I still remember the joy of being admitted to this prestigious lab, and it has been my pleasure to work with the most talented researchers in the world. I'm deeply grateful to CPES for providing such fantastic environment, and to my advisor Dr. Dong Dong for his continuous guidance, patience, encouragement, and support. I’m also thankful to all the CPES staff and friendships I have built here—you guys are wonderful.”
Congratulations, Dr. Chang, on this remarkable achievement and new chapter in your career!
