"DC-DC Converter Synthesis: An Inverse Problem", a paper co-authored by CPES Professor Khai Ngo was recently awarded a 2020 First Place Prize Paper Award for IEEE Power Electronics Letters.

Co-authors on the paper are colleagues from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India: Ramanuja Panigrahi, Santanu K. Mishra, and Avinash Joshi.

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics Editorial Office notes that this paper was chosen from the more than 1100 published in 2020 after a rigorous, multi-level review process that placed specific emphasis on originality; contribution to the field; extent to which the paper is supported by analysis and experimental evidence; and quality of presentation, including the effective use of illustrations.

"DC-DC Converter Synthesis: An Inverse Problem"
December 2020, Vol. 35, No. 12, pp.12633-12638
Abbreviated Abstract: The inverse problem for the dc-dc converters refers to synthesizing converter topologies from a specified voltage gain expression. Though the flux balance principle is widely used in the analysis of dc-dc converters, its application as a synthesis tool has not been explored. This letter describes a mathematical approach to synthesize converter topologies from a required voltage gain expression by utilizing the principle of inductor flux balance.
