Reducing magnetic size by coupling for high frequency integrated POL converter (2007)

High frequency integrated POL DC/DC module is a big and fast increasing market today. The issue in this application is that its magnetic size is too large, which impedes the total size reduction of the POL converter.
With the LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fire Ceramic) process, it is revealed that employing coupled inductor can greatly reduce the magnetic size and footprint.

The following pictures of the conventional non-coupled inductors and coupled inductor for the same application, 70nH/20A per inductor, explicitly demonstrate the significance of the couple concept.
