CPES 4-Phase VRM (1997)
Year: 1997
This prototype was a 4-phase buck converter developed by CPES researchers and demonstrated and bench-marked with the existing practice at the time. This particular demonstration shows a 6x improvement in power density, one-third of the profile, and 10x reduction of the energy storage inductors and 6x reduction of upward capacitors. There is a transient voltage variation at close to one-fourth of the current practice. Above all these, the 4-phase converter could deliver 2V at the 30A level while the current practice was only able to deliver 2V at 15A.
